    Officer sword with fullered blade

A friend would like some info about this sword. I don't have any details about the tang, however I always believed fullered blades were an NCO feature.

These are the only photos I can provide at this time, so generalised comments will still be welcomed.

    Many thanks, Mike.

Hi are added to a blade for balance and can be found on many older blades. I have also seen them on gendaito and showato. It would be an extra expense added at the request of the owner. They are definitely not exclusive to the NCO sword.

Looks like a nice blade in Type 98 IJA mounts. As Bob says the "hi" (the grooves) are not exclusive to NCO swords. Your sword also has a pierced tsuba, another higher than average quality feature.

        Regards,
        Stu

I am curious, Just for my own knowledge. I thought the "fuller" if it extended under the habaki was a sign of a repoduction. Or does this only apply to the type 95 NCO swords?

no hi can finish at the habaki or anywhere through the nakago on older or shortened sword it can run off the end
