My grandfather was in the navy in ww2. while he was of ship in Sipan him and his buddy were escorted around by a group of marines (because of the Island still not being totally secure) He picked this helmet out of the sand and cut out the liner with his service knife. He said the liner was soked with blood and he removed it. He then shipped it home to my father. My father when he was younger repainted the outside with a dark green house paint but left the inside alone. On the inside there is a definate blood stain and small strips of what is left of the liner looks to be blood soked and there is also some Japanese writing in the rim. My father gave this helmet and some others to me for my collection I have stripped all the house paint off and have tride to repaint the outside close to what it was per his discription (although I don't quit think the color is right)
and added a marine pin and a net I have left the inside untouched. What I want to know is what type of helmet it is.
It is not a regular Army helmet ( I have two of these and it is not as tall at the crown and has a slitly different brim )
I can't post pics but would e-mail pictures to anyone who could help ID or put my pics up on the site
