A photo translation please?? IJN Sailors.

These were in a vet bring back grouping .. in a large medical or instrument case of some kind, it was jammed full with Japanese items.

I got these photos.. thought they were interesting.

    Any help on the translation?

    Thanks in advance,
    Brian

Then I got this one for my wife because of the deer! (she loves animals)
Any ideas on where this photo could have been taken?

The deer photo is likely at Nara Park, famous for its deer.

This might be the pagoda in the background of your photo:

        Hi Brian-san,

        Very nice photos.

        Left Photo:

Both Sakamoto and Hashino were 18 years old when the photo was taken.

it was written at the bottom: 18 (Jyu-hat sai)

        Cheers!

              興福寺 ???

Well ... I cannot pinpoint the exact location of the deer photo, but it is either on the grounds of Kofuku-ji 興福寺, or nearby, downhill. The five-storied pagoda is the symbol of Nara (in addition to the deer).

could the roof seen in my photo be the Todai-ji?
                http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T%C5%8Ddai-ji

It sure seems to be a shrine area.. I am having a hard time telling whether it is on a type of sand? Or is it snow??

                  Or what about Karakuni Shrine?
I think the pagoda would look about that distance away?
And the ground appears to be covered with white rock.

I can't find many better photos.
