    Japanese canteen need identification.

    Hello everyone. I have this japanese canteen, and she is very similar to the German WWI medic canteen... Is this an army canteen or just civil?

    New one for me! Might be Chinese? Maybe private purchase officers? Never seen anything like it. Japanese didn't use that type of snap clip.

      I can't clearly see the "iteration/repeat sound" mark on the canteen, but the maker looks like it is either Matustsu or Matsudzu

        It does look very military. I wonder if it could be for civil use? Japanese use German terms (and design) for mountaineering gear even today.

        zeruto = zelt = tent
        zairu = seil = rope
        ryuuku = [ruck]sack = backpack
        pikkuru = [eis]pickel = ice axe
        aizen = [steig]eisern = crampons
        shyuuraufu = schlaufsack = sleeping bag
