    Japanese ID Tag

Acquired this ID Tag a little while ago.

There are examples in the IJN/NLF Osprey book of ID Tags made from Ivory/bone like this. Not sure if it is naval related or just an ID tag used by military personnel.

Could somebody lend a hand on what this tag reads? Greatly appreciate any help here.

    Thank you.

Name: Koguma [Little Bear ... sounds American Indian!]

      小熊

Not certain about the kanji ..... it means shell or husk -- so I must have missed a stroke -- because that just can't be right; still, I cannot find a similar one. Someone will quickly post the accurate kanji and I'll feel stoooopit again. (^__^)

I'm afraid it is not military, but farming related. Possibly a tag used on a board at a cereal farmer's market.

One needs to be careful about tags in this configuration, as they are standard management tools used in countless offices to keep track of attendance. They are hung on nails to a board in the office entrance and when you report to work in the morning you put the name side forward and flip it over or upside down when leaving the office.

            Thank you very much fellas.

Sad to know it is not military related but still interesting in its own right.

I will be very careful/weary in the future when looking at an ID Tag in this construction again.

            Thank you!
