Japanese Wound Badge

Hello to all,

I bought this Japanese Wound Badge at a small military show today. It's my first Japanese medal purchase for the new year and it could be my last too as I don't often buy Japanese medals. But it's such a nice looking piece (and was priced right) so I couldn't pass it up.

Hi Tom,

Looks like a very fine Type II Ko'Sho awarded for wounds received or a disability incurred in a non combatant setting. Examples might be a training accident or disease such as malaria etc.

The enamel looks to be intact and that's always a plus with these items much the same as it is with the Imperial German awards.
