I have a WW2 vet brought back shovel with removable handle, 2 small holes in the blade and 1 large hole at the step. Also hole in the handle but no rope.
The shovel has remains of green paint to the blade.
The blade is marked 6-19 *(5 point star) and M (which looks like an upside down W).
Do these marking date the shovel to June of 1944?
(New Zealand forces in the Pacific Islands acquired Japanese shovels as they were better than the NZ issue shovels.) But if it is June 1944 it is to late and maybe a J Force or RNZAF bring back.
Did the Special Naval landing Brigade of the IJN have different equipment to the IJA? (I do know that the water bottle was different and that they had green uniforms as oposed to the tan of the Army).
Any help much appericated and thanks in advance.
