Todays pick up that i had to show you all .

Love this helmet , I am wondering if the dog tag can be matched to the kanji on the liner that is sewn in . The rifle is great too . I waited a long time to find a netted helmet out of the woodwork .

                Hi John-san,

To me, I have some suspicions on the liner with the name.

                - the name doesn't make sense to me コバシガハ (Kobashigaha) ?

                - someone might replaced the named liner piece (color does not match condition).

                - photos of the back side of the liner flaps

                - might need a close up photo of the star, both fron and back.

                Regards,
                Taka

WWII -- the old "wa" was often written as ハ. Today, when typing on a Japanese keyboard if you want the particle は "wa", you have to type "ha." In WWII the particle "wa" was written as ハ [ha].

The Japanese name is probably Kobashigawa

                  (こばしがわ)Kobashigawa

                    Hi Guy-san,

But why not put a instead?

                    Since they are all Katakana...

                    Regards,
                    Taka

Taka-san ... good question ... for which I have no answer. Maber "ha" was easier when using thread?

Thanks guys , this was a direct vet estate purchase by a good friend of mine that moved it along to me . Is is possible to match the dog tag the the sewn thread in the liner or is it out of all possibility ?

Don't think it's possible to connect tag to helmet . Tags only have numerical codes for unit etc not owners name. Check to see if dust cover matches type 38 rifles serial number. Rear flange of cover has number.

The bring back tag with APO 180 indicates that it is from Okinawa and looking at the unit, HQ Battery 420 FA (Field Artillery) Gp (Group) they were under the 77 Infantry Division fighting on Okinawa. The dog tag cannot be matched with the helmet as Jareth mentioned but has the unit code for "12394" but I cannot find that code for any Japanese units on Okinawa but do have ones close that start with "123xx" so not sure as I am missing a few codes from my list. Maybe someone else here can confirm the code on the dog tag. The "A" on the back would indicate blood type. Is there a date mark under the front liner?
