Help Translating Name Tag and Interior Label

    Hello all,

Just added these two items and was hoping I could get assistance in getting the NLF Name Tag and NLF Tunic Label Translated. The Name tag was cut off of a NLF Uniform. Thanks for any assistance .

    Best, David.

David I too recently added a similar set to my collection! I found it interesting that the matching interior tag was also taken. Wonder if it was military intelligence or just GI souviner scrounging?

      Jareth,

I remember your set. Unfortunately these are two seperate pieces. I remember a special order that NLF uniforms were not to be taken as souvenirs by the GI's so I would think that they were cut off the uniforms for military intelligence, would make sense instead of taking the whole tunic.

I can't find the 1st kanji on the top line (far right) -- some sort of NCO?

        Yamash!ta of the Murakami Unit

        [?] 兵長
        [?] Hei-chou

        村上部隊
        Murakami Butai

Thanks Guy for the name tag translation. I did a quick research on the other kanji character and think it my be Kanji for Engineer?

          長 兵 機 - Engineer Leading Seaman?

          What do you think. Thanks

          David.

            Hi David,

The kanji that I can find that is closest is
Geki -- (written) appeal; circular; manifesto
            Tree 木//white 白 (over) person方// the racical called "to-mata" [to= ト; mata = 又)

What we need to see is
            Tree 木/white 白 over person 方/ spear

Hopefully Taka-san will step in and help us!

I agree with David-san, the Ki is the only word that Make sense to me.

Sure it has a rather different style of writing.

              Regards,
              Taka

I can't clearly see the first kanji, but am guessing "Ta"

                    田中 喜久夫

                    Tanaka Kikuo

                    Maybe from Sasebo warehouses?
                    [for 世保 ???]

                    --Guy

[EDIT: However the top of the tag says Kure -- 呉軍帯]
                    or is that third kanji
                    ?

                      Family name ....

If not Tanaka .... perhaps Hatakenaka? I think I see a "fire + rice field"

                      畑中

                      畑中 (はたけなか) Hatakenaka [place, surname]
                      畑中 (はたなか) Hatanaka [place, surname]
                      畑中 (はたなかん) Hatanakan

                              David,

Thanks for the thanks -- helping out is good for my kanji retention .... even when I make all the errors I've made. It's all a learning/re-learning process.

                              Taka-san,

THANKS for the clear follow-up! So, is his name Tanaka or HatakeNaka? I still can't clearly see the kanji, ......... but it looks like a compound-kanji to me.
