    Misc. Japanese things.

I have no idea what these things would be worth, if anything. I am without a clue as to what this thing is......looks like a very small sword blade, but appears to be made of a light thin metal (maybe aluminum).

This one, I think, is a Japanese condom...unopened.

I think it came from Frank Pava as well.

    Thanks,
    Ron

I have seen small blades like this as Omamori, wrapped in paper and given out at shrines or temples as good luck charms.

          鶴岡八幡宮

          Tsuruoka Hachiman-Gu
          Tsuru-ga-oka Hachiman Shrine
Hachiman is the God of War

When I was there they had the Yabusame [mounted archery] exhibition.

I have a key ring from a shrine dedicated to Iaido [swordsmanship] and it has a small sword blade about 2 in. (5.5cm). How big is your blade?

            The condom cover...

            BWA-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

            突撃
            Tsukigeki

            一番
            Ichiban

突撃 Tsukigeki = thrust + strike (assault/onslaught) -- we use this term in Japanese fencing for a thrust attack. I suppose the soldier could also use this in a "thrust attack"

            一番 Ichi-ban = Number 1/Best

              Guy,

Although I am not sure where it is right now, due to the work, packing and moving things, as I remember it is likely about 2 inches long.

              Thanks,
              Ron

Hmmmmmmm ..... now that I'm recalling my lessons, I think we pronounced that as Totsugeki -- same kanji, same meaning.

Aha, I'm right. Though, in this Japanese Wiki Totsugeki is translated into "Shock Troops." There is an English page listed on the left margin.

                突撃(とつげき、: assault)

and, our 5th standardized form was called Totsugeki in the 1944 manual. Nowadays we call it "Gohon-me" [Number Five] or "Zen-men no Teki" [Enemies all Around]. In the Toyama Army manual of swordsmanship it is called "Totsugeki" [Assault].

I was going to correct the pronunciation, Guy-san.

But you found out the right pronunciation. Good Job !

                  Cheers!
