    Japanes flag check gibberish or the real deal?

    Hello everyone,
    Most often I can spot legitimate Japanese writing, however other times its hard for me to tell, especially when the writers use Katakana. How does this look to the better eductaed than I, and the native speakers here? If it legit looking, any ideas as to what it says? Thanks

      It's a 1946 write-up for a GI ... done by a Japanese.
      Top:
      Aomori, Honshu, Japan; September 25

      [to] Jack Guranaroru [the best I can make of the katakana]
      80th Division

      Then the locations, counter clockwise, starting at the 3:00 o'clock position:
      Lete, Yaren... [?], Rabauru, 野猫 [Noneko"stray cat" his nickname?], Honshu, Guadacanal, Aomori, Orumokku [??], Manilla, and Finchyafuen [??]
      ============

      Second image, bottom of the rising sun, clockwise:
      [Sap]poro, Nyukkoria [? New Something; New Kotsuria??????], Hokkaido, Hollandia, [?can't read last kanji]

      Bottom arch:
      Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan January 1946

      Edit: Aomori is a prefecture on the main island (Honshu) of Japan; Sapporo is the main city in the "do" [larger than a province] island of Hokkaido. I've been there many times and would rather live there than Tokyo [my wife is from Sapporo].

          Hi Paul,

          I cannot help you with the translation, but it did strike me as a souvenir flag.
          I was able to find this on findagrave.com I think it is who wrote the provenance letter.
