Haven' t seen one for sell in a long time.

Not a bad example at all, and I don' t blame the price.

I would pay that kind of money over a German Fallschirmjäger helmet.

Last week I spoke with the brother of a very old friend and long time Japanese collector and he remembered finding a pile of these in Japan during the Occupation. Almost everyone who picked one up (there were at least a hundred) quickly got rid of it because they were heavy and "looked stupid".

Should track down the families of his shipmates and see if any of them decided not to ditch their stupid looking helmets!

That eBay helmet has been on for at least three listings. Extremely rare helmet that in the good old days when the economy was better would of sold quickly. These helmets are a real enigma. No evidence yet points to their exact usage.

I personally was never attracted to these helmets for the simple fact that people were paying top $$$ dollar on an helmet with lots of speculation on its use with no real evidence to back it up.

Yeah but one of the theories just has to be correct, maybe new info will surface or a period photo, it's dam cool, navy, grey, unique shape/insignia etc. what's not to love?!

I remember in the year 2006 or 2007, (just started collecting) first time visited the

Collectors' Gild website.

In the Japanese section, there was a same kind of helmet for sale, but unfortunately

not able to remember the price. I think around $7,000~$8,000.

I didn't know much about Japanese stuff back then, but when I saw that helmet,

man, that gave me hack of an impact !
