Thank You so much Guy, that is very helpful and interesting. I'm trying to familiarize myself with common phrases and Kanji but it slows going.

Can you tell me what the meanings is of fishhook shaped Kanji is that appears several times throughout the flag, notable it appears three time at the bottom of three columns right below the meatball. It also kind of looks like it's up at the top left corner, almost on level with the top of the Bu Kanji.

You're probably talking about 義 "gi" [rhymes with "key"] -- it means LOYALTY. Often you'll see this as a huge painting in Yakuza movies, right behind the "big boss."

It also kind of looks like it's up at the top left corner, almost on level with the top of the Bu Kanji.

Nope, that's different: 代 "dai" [time/generation]. In this case, it is part of a given name 紀代 and is pronounced "Kiyo." [family name Tanaka 田中]

Yes I meant the one that Paul has circled. Sorry for the layman description of the Kanji. I am trying to educate myself, but it's quite slow going.

That is 子 (Ko) - Infant, child, son, kid.

However when use like in names, very last character often indicates a female name.

For example:

First names

Youko　洋子

Sachiko　幸子

Last name (Male/Female)

Kaneko 金子

Location

Abiko 我孫子

Thank you Taka, I have seen 子 (Ko) on several other flags, for some reason that one has always stuck out to me. If it's commonly used as part of a name that make's perfect sense.
