Help with Japanese Neck Flap

Can you please give me you opinions on this very rare neck flap? It looks a little too good to be true.....

Hi Matt,

I notice the neck flap, and believe it or not, it was made during Meiji period.

I don't know if it is a genuin piece.

I'm kind of suspicious about it.

As Taka has pointed out, the depot stamp has a place left for the date with a Meiji year. The WWII style caps we are familiar with were developed in the Showa era, before then, solders wore visor caps. So, IF it is real (and I don't have much faith in it, certainly not enough to pay $800), it is for a visor cap, not the field cap.

Notice how "dirty" the cloth is, like it was used hard, yet the stamps are like new, and the place for the name and date are not filled in, like an unissued item. There's not much to these, and I'm sure there are variations depending on the time period and shop it was made in, so there's not a lot for collectors to check to try and spot a fake.
