    a mix of parts ? I see the bottom seppa (spacer) is cut out for a lock, as is the scabbard. but no lock on the grip or hole through the tsuba for the lock.

      Yes, please remove the grip so we can see if there are any markings on the tang. I think there probably will be because it looks like a non-traditionally made blade to me.

                  I would think this would be the owner's name. I'm not familiar with craftsmen scratching their names on seppa.

                    I agree with gunto.

                    As to value ... it's a standard Type 98 IJA Officer sword and each will view it differently but given the pitting on the blade, rust on the scabbard and general overall condition I'd suggest 400 USD.
