    Army Officers Soft Cap Help

I bought this cap and am trying to figure out why this has a band like the naval caps around it. Any idea?

      Officers Soft Cap

The band looks to be the same type as that found on the the cuffs of Officers Type 3 Service Tunics, so it probably represents the same - I band Company Grade,
2 band Field Grade, 3 band General Grade.
Your cap was probably worn by a Lieutenant or captain.

I've seen one example in Japan with the same insignia on the IJNLF cap (with mesh type lining), but nobody had any idea who and what for.

Doug that makes sense, but, why don't we see this more? This is the only army cap I have seen like this.

I was watching a Japanese newsreel in color on youtube and the army officer was wearing a cap in the field just like this with one band. that was neat to see to confirm these were worn by army officers. At first i was afraid it was some type of civilian had for vets or something.

Are you sure it was Army and not Navy?
