I bought this cap and am trying to figure out why this has a band like the naval caps around it. Any idea?

Officers Soft Cap
The band looks to be the same type as that found on the the cuffs of Officers Type 3 Service Tunics, so it probably represents the same - I band Company Grade,
2 band Field Grade, 3 band General Grade.
Your cap was probably worn by a Lieutenant or captain.

I've seen one example in Japan with the same insignia on the IJNLF cap (with mesh type lining), but nobody had any idea who and what for.

I was watching a Japanese newsreel in color on youtube and the army officer was wearing a cap in the field just like this with one band. that was neat to see to confirm these were worn by army officers. At first i was afraid it was some type of civilian had for vets or something.Comment
