Japanese Officers Cap&Flag

I just bought these and was wondering what they were. Why does the officers hat have the braiding around the bottom? Any info on the flag. It was brought back and signed by the vet. Thanks

I've never seen an army cap with a side stripe as found on navy field caps. Is it a gold stripe? How about an interior photo?

I'll try to get a inside photo when i can. it is silk with a paper/leather sweatband. the braiding seems to match the cap and i don't think it was gold.

haven't been able to post more photos but any idea why this cap has the braiding on it? Could it be for a high officer?
