Japanese 1930's Kai-gunto sword? help needed!

    Hi all,

Recently picked this sword up in a large group of various militaria and was wondering what era it was from and if it was indeed authentic Japanese. I thought it might have been a Japanese Navy Kai-gunto however I am not sure, the tsuba guard does not appear to have any writing on it. The sword scabbard, fittings and blade also seem to be in great condition.

    Any help appreciated!!

      Hi Gunto,

Thank you for the advice, I am lucky that it was with a large group of original items (only one other Japanese item in the group). Could you please point out what let you know it was a fake? I was worried when I noticed that other examples had shark skin scabbards and this appeared to be made of a different material.

        Sword

Tsuba is wrong, wrapping on handle incorrectly done, the damascus appearance of the blade is a dead giveaway by itself
