    Binoculars

Just picked these up at an antique store, I'm not sure if this is IJA or not.
What kind of binoculars are these, and if they are IJA how much would they be worth? Is this government issue or PP?

The binoculars are for certain prewar Japanese (JES standard, the precursor to the JIS was used from 21~45), and the rubberized canvas case looks pretty Japanese. And the spring tab attachment thing on the case seems to be similar to similar attachments fount on holsters.

Optics are working, and they are pretty good binoculars, much more powerful than the cheapo outdoor ones I have lying around the house.

    Thank you all in advance.

I saw these on google image search. Looks like the SAME case, but different binos.

The shoulder strap is in great shape with original buckle and all four riveted loops on the case to hold it in place. The extra wide belt loop on the rear is solid as well. Saving the best for last, the lens covers are still strapped to the inside lid. This binocular and case set is hard enough to find but when one is located these lens covers are almost always gone. The obvious purpose was to lower the strength of the tropical sun so the viewer could actually see something. ...

Actually, your case looks a bit shorter than the one I referenced; but, same style construction with minor differences (e.g., yours has two rivets between the latch catch-post; no lens cover pocket in lid, etc.).

        Hi Walter-san

        That's definetly IJA binoculars.

However the binoculars are not mached with the case.

        The case is
陸軍 九三式 双眼鏡 (Rikkugunn Kyuu San-siki Sougannkyou) - IJA Type 93 Binocular.

However don't know the type of the binos. Private purchased from officer, perhaps...

        Regards,
        Taka

          Sorry, my mistake.

After closer looks, I think they are not Type 93 at all

I guess it is some sort of tropical or late war private purchase then??

Yeah, I thought they were regular gov issue cases for NCO at first but the ones I've seen don't have the spring tab and there isn't any molding (?) inside shaped for the grenade, it's just the shape of the case. The plot thickens.

              Hi Walter-san,

              I finally found it!

              Notice the manufacturing date.

These were issued to IJA NCOs. (Does not have a designation)

              Regards,
              Taka

Oh silly me I didn't see the issue date. Thank you very much!

Now that i've looked it again it says

                昭十四 京
Which I assume means Showa 14/Kyoto?

It's a shame mine doesn't seem to have the lens covers
