Uniform Grp of Rear Admiral Keizo Komura

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keizo_Komura

What do you all think this uniform grouping which belonged to Vice Admiral Keizo Komura is worth/sell for?

It is presently available and consists of his blue jacket, medals, commanders badge, for and aft hat, visor hat, small battle flag/ensign, and dress sword. The display case is Japanese made and is also included.

One thing is for sure - this medal bar has nothing to do with Keizō Komura.
Either that or he was fighting in R-J war at the age of 9

In this case I will add that this medal bar has impossible combination of orders (by classes)...
4th class sacred treasure, 5th class golden kite and 8th class rising sun...

Image of Komura wearing whites -- too bleached out to "read" his ribbon bar; nonetheless: http://twitpic.com/2n0ld2

The asking price for this grouping is $6,500.00...?

                    $6,500?!

That's what I call great expectations

Yes. Way too much for a put together grouping. It's my opinion that these dress tunics/fore aft hats just aren't as desirible or scarce as service/service dress tunics

I agree as well and will advise my friend to forget about trying to purchase the group.

I only collect items related to the Samurai so I couldn't provide any information to him regarding value and appreciate the help

In the photo of the Rear Admirals tunic, there appears to be a white stripe under the last gold braid on the cuff. If this is so, then the original owner would then be an admiral in the Navy Pay corps. As white piping accompanying the gold braid both on the collar tabs and cuff rank would indicate Naval Finance “Pay” corps.
The original Owners’ name would also be embroidered on a fancy label inside the coat. As it appears that Komura-san was a line officer and not an admiral in the Pay corps.
As mentioned too, the medal grouping looks off as well. The awards of a senior naval officer would most rate higher levels of the Rising Sun and Sacred Treasure. Perhaps third or second class at the least for a Rear Admiral. In the photo it looks like the Order of the Rising Sun is a 8th Class! Usually awarded to junior enlisted personnel!
I had in my collection a Rear Admiral Pay corps tunic with fore and aft cap and shoulder boards that I let go. This kind of looks like the one I had in my collection.
In today’s market, I would say the going rate would be between $1300-$2000 for the lot.

The "right" combination of classes for rear admiral would be

                            1/2 class of sacred treasure
                            2/3 class of rising sun
                            3/4 class of golden kite

                            Cheers,
                            Nick

I recently bought a dress jacket of IJN officer from Griffin for around 350 dollars.

Fore and aft hat with epaulettes with original box can be found for 500-700, dress sword I bought for 600, ensign for 100...

More or less, I would give 1500 for all of that + the medals I do not know about
