    Japanese Bomber Piece

Hi guys, I picked up this trench art match box cover on the week end at a local antique shop and was wodering if any one can identify what is on the two small plates. One side has " MITSUBISHI HEAVY 97 BOMBER" and the numbers S.42'. L47'. which maybe numbers from the bomber of coodinates where it was shotdown?? What I was wondering is if anyone can ID the two plates attached to the other side. By the way the name is to VX100309 Mervyn George Smedley who joined the Australian forces on the 6 July 1942 and served in Artillery.
    Thanks
    Alan

Numbers on the side should read "S.72'. L.47'."

        Hi Alan,

A very nice IJN bomber piece made by Mitsubishi.

Maybe came from some electronic devices. Manufactured July, 1941. 昭和16 7月製

The bold character reads オーム- Ohm Ω (50)

I Like the Mitsubishi green paint. Also all the flat head (machine) screws were removed.

I' m positive that this isn't came from Type 97 Heavy Bomber.

It is because Mitsubishi Type 97 was an army bomber.

Type 1 Ground Attack Plane G4M "Betty"

They were both in service in 1942.

        Probably the soldier was mistaken.

        Thank you for sharing.

        Regards,
        Taka

Hi Taka, thank you for some very usefull information. The anchor had me stumped as I also thought that it was for IJN.
