Looks like someone conquered Mount Fuji--it looks to be a commem. flag for that.

OK, Thanks Tom! Now I remember having seen one of these before. I just can't remember seeing one on an IJN flag.

        Hi Paul,

        Here are the translations:

        歓喜征頂 -Joyful Conquer

富士山頂上踏破記念 - Meomry for breaking record of Mt. Fuji Summit.

海抜 三七七六米 - 3,776m Above sea level.

        Regards,
        Taka

Yeah, you can buy these at Station #5 -- which is the jump-off point for climbing Fujisan. From Station #5 it still takes about 5~8 hours to get to the top.

I purchased mine in 1984 (IJN style) and tied it to the hexagonal hiking staff (zue); at each station you can have a brand burned onto the staff.

Top of the world! Heavily overcast until just at sunrise -- then the sun came out.

          Cheers!

Posting two photos of a flag I recently purchased from a military dealer's website.

He states it is "WW2 era"

              Any thoughts or disagreements?

Dunno, with a the heading "Light of Peace" I sort of doubt it is WW2 period.

                  平和の光
                  Heiwa no Ko [or Hikari]

And the material looks very white [like mine] compared to the original poster's flag.

The rest of the writing has been explained by Taka-san

                    Hi Ray,

I think you should return the flag, and get your money back.

                    Regrds,

I personally don't believe they made "bayonet" flags. What they are is
                        parade flags etc
