Good example of a late war tunic.

I'm not sure about the patch/insignia on the chest as one would like to see the hidden stitch method of attachment. Also, its hard to tell if the insignia was inked on with a brush? Would be curious to see if anyone else has thoughts.

This is a 決戦服/戦時服 (Decisive battle uniform/wartime uniform) winter version. Crappy Japanese version of "ike" jacket when T98s became too costly to make.
The breast and collar insignia may or may not have been applied wartime. This kind of unit insignia was for individual units (on the Chuutai level), but it seems like the design was up to the commander's fancy so it's hard to find out what exactly that would have belonged too. Another possibility is that it's the "Division letter (兵団文字符)" of the Division. In this case this might be the 24th Shidan but they were in Okinawa so it is unlikely they received the "Wartime" uniform which was only made from 1944. All in all it's a very interesting uniform to have, maybe you could make a display with other "Mainland defense" gear like canvas belts/pouches, rayon puttees, sharkskin boots and the like.

Can you take pics of the inspection stamp? If it's been issued (user's name written on one of the vertical columns) then it's a good chance its original.

...Nice tunic! I really like these late war Home Front Battle Wear Tunics. There's a group photo of Japanese soldiers wearing their home front battle tunic with majority of them with a white (name?) tag above their left breast pocket very similar to yours on pages 88-89 of Mike Hewitt's book.

Here's the stamp in my Kesenfuku tunic dated Showa 20, Osaka Army depot. Can you make out the date on yours?

              Aloha Bruno,
That's the book. It's a good book, only deals with enlisted man's uniforms and equipment.
You have a great collection and I like the way you have them displayed on the mannequins. !!
