2 Japanese Flags for review, please help

Are these wartime. I bought them from the wife of a ww2 vet, but he may have started collecting after the war and had some stuff that wasnt original wartime.

As mentioned over on WRF, I think the Navy is but I can't tell with the National flag.

Thanks again Stu. I think the navy one might be good too since it does not glow, but they both look so similar I find it hard to believe one would glow and one wouldnt. Does silk glow under blacklight? My only guess would be that they are made of separate materials, but I am not expert by any means.

Silk does not glow under black light unless it's been treated or washed with a solution containing chemicals that will.

The Navy looks to be made of Rayon. Rayon is also known as false silk. The National flag looks to be made of cotton. I could be incorrect though as it's difficult to tell from photos. Regardless, both materials were appropriate for the WW2 period.

          Regards,
          Stu
PS: I don't know how others feel about the black light test but I have come to view it with no small amount of skepticism over time. I would not use it alone to include nor rule out an item.

That type of tab/ties are more common on post-war flags.
