Has anyone seen a helmet like this ?

Hello All, This helmet is black, with a yellow under it and under that is brown, the normal brown you see on a Japanese helmet, it has a star painted yellow. The star is the same size as the ones on my regular Japanese helmets. And all the vent holes and liner hol;es are in the same place. It was a veteran bring back from Burma. Has any one else seen a helmet like this. I thank all those that help me on this one.

I would have a hard time believing the black & yellow interior and star are original paint... looks like a typical "GI" modification or kids postwar paint job IMO.... the brite yellow star is not something anyone would wear in combat for sure..... and it just doesn't look 70 years old IMO.

I've seen several differants shades/etc. of paint on WW 2 Japanese helmets, and many other paint jobs done postwar by those who reissued captured helmets...however, AFIK only Japanese Nationals could wear "yellow" stars, any foreign "Volunteer" forces used "other" colors or a combination of colors....certianly only China/N.Korea possibly retained stars, postwar, but they were normally painted red.

So I don't know...but VERY untypical for anything Japanese (the paint job).... I know "dealers" are always pushing black painted German/Japanese helmets as "Flak" helmets or "Nightfighters" Helmets....bunch of "Bull" IMO...so they can move repainted helmets...(sure....there's always a few exceptions to the rule)...
Just my opinion..."tis what it is..."

That helmet is good for a shell for restoration. You can see some of the original brown paint inside the top where they failed to remove it before applying that horrible yellow, then black paint. Strip it down, repaint it and get a repro liner/strap.

Agreed!, no harm there, as all historical value has already been destroyed!

Black or navy blue ones are probably postwar police use.

                Black Helmet

Beyond the black paint, has anyone EVER seen a yellow star on a Japanese helmet ???
I thank all of you that helped me. I was very suspicious of it when I saw it.
                I just needed confirmation.
