Sword Tang Translation II and III

I had great luck with my last posting, so I thought I might try another couple of swords. Any information appreciated. These belonged to my father. The short sword was bought at a farm auction about 20 years ago. It has a Victorian era paper tag with a number on it. The Navy sword was bought back in the 1970s at a local gun show.

navy sword is ishido Teruhide, you can find info on him online. the short sword looks like Kanesaki

Thank you. There is a lot of information about the first swordsmith you mention. The blade on that sword is very fine and has a pronounced temper pattern.

I agree, that' s a tsssel for Company officer (尉官).

Correct

I figured the tassel was incorrect. There is an army sword in the collection, so it is possible the tassel got placed on the wrong sword at some point.

Should be an all brown tassel for the Navy sword.

Some all brown looking sword tassels were used by Sergeant Major(曹長) of the IJA as well.

It depends on the color difference, might be a little confusing sometimes.

Lighter brown - IJA Sergeant Major

Darker brown - IJN
