          Hi J,

The big guy is a Type 100 81mm mortar shell, fuse was made 昭和十四 (Shouwa 14 which is 1939) 12 (December).

The small guy is a Type 89 50mm "Knee" mortar round, fuse was made 昭和十八 (Shouwa 18 which is 1943) 5 (May).

Last one is a WWII German M39 "Egg" grenade.

Hey Jumper, the large mortar shell could be an old repaint. Could you post another picture so we can judge the paint? Are there any white stenciled japanese markings on the body anywhere? Does the fuze and the fuze adapter thread off the shell?

Jumper. This is actually a Type 94 90mm mortar round. Its possible the color bands might be repainted. I can't be sure judging from photos. These are harder to get than the 81mm rounds. Good piece but there is a question about the paint. I have not seen red painted bands on 81mm or 90mm mortar rounds. That is a mystery. I have seen white, yellow and green painted bands not red.

Question, can you remove the adapter from the mouth of the shell? Can you see inside? Any white stenciled markings on the body anywhere?

PS. again, not sure about the paint but I could be wrong.

I agree with Jim that it is highly suspect that your 90mm has been repainted.

With the paint being a possible issue what value would you put
                    The 90mm and knee mortar?

                    Thanks j

                      value

                      jumper,

It seems everybody has a difference of opinion on value. I would suggest a price range of $175 to $250 for Type 100 and Type 98 81mm mortar shells. 90mm repaints would be $350 to $375. 90mm shell with original paint 500. To be honest with you a 90mm is kinda rare but reconditioning hits the value a bit. Knee mortar shells are very common, $150 to $200 tops. As of late the prices of Japanese ordnance is down. Good luck in moving the piece. Good places to sell are this site, gunbroker.com and gunboards(Japanese trader page).

Japanese ordnance is my main collecting focus.

                      good luck.
