Hi Brecht,

You have a very good canteen right there, congrats.

Yep, that is a mid early leather version. They are not as common as the later type (webbing).

Much more rarer type is the early all leather version. I've only saw 1 or 2.

Owner' s name was written in black pen ヤノ (Kanji-矢野) －Pronounce （Yano)。

Leather strap is very fragile, so pleas take good care of this beauty.

as Taka mentioned leather straps dates it & not unusual at all. Very common in my opinion
