    Japanese Field Cap Appraisals Required

curious if this is indeed a military cap. Looks like the lining has been removed. Sweatband made of pressed paper or similar. Virtually devoid of any markings and the star is absent.
    cheers Robert

    Hi Robert,

This is a civilian cap, indeed. No vent holes.

I assume there aren't any markings inside the cap.

    Best regards,
    Taka

These are very common and people try to sell them as "late war army" caps. Sometimes a brass star from a visor cap has been added. If the army had really been so hard up to issue these cheap caps, why would they use brass for the star instead of the cloth normally used? Especially since military field caps were designed specifically to be able to be worn under the helmet, where you don't want a sharp metal star poking in your head.

No, these are military-style civilian work caps and I have never seen one with any convincing insignia that didn't look like it was added post-war, they should look just the way this one does. Still a Japanese home-front collectable, but not worth much. This one is actually of higher quality material than many of them.

            Cap

Papa Nambu thanks for that information it actually makes sense. I didnt pay that much for it but if I had of known the cap wasnt military issue I would not have bought it.
            cheers Robert
