Army helmet question?

I picked up this helmet yesterday, and the guy keep saying it is camo. To me it looks like rust. So I wanted to ask you guys a question about it, what you guys think? Thank you

Looks like ground dug with weathering, or exposed under the sun for a long time)

I' m a little curious about the scratches on right side of the star.

First I thought someone used the star to scratch the surface, but the more I

looked at feels like the direction is start from left to right. (Based on the

location of the four points). So might be wind or sand that caused them.
