A couple of Vet bring back flags get reunited

    Hello everyone,
I was recently able to reunite 2 flags that were brought back home by a returning war veteran. The flag with the Daruma figure I was able to purchase a couple of months ago. The seller said that there was another signed flag with it, that she may be willing to sell in the future. She felt since the second flag was made of silk, that it was worth way more money. I explained to her that the value of the Yosegaki Hinomaru is mainly in the content of the flag, not necessarily in the construction. I made her a nice offer on the flag, which she refused. She had my contact information and I let her know that my offer would be a standing offer. I did ask her to let me know once again if it was going to be sold, as I would like to keep the flags together that came home together. Well, that's what she remembered more than the price I offered her. We were able to work it out an the flags have now been reunited, where they will stay, as long as I am watching over them. The second flag is made of silk, and has some writing in the center of the rising sun. If anyone can tell me anything about this flag, I would appreciate it. I am particularly interested in whats written in the center disc. Thanks everyone and enjoy the pictures.

Your new flag of on the right side expresses the hopes the owner would be going to London and Washington to kick some ass. The middle is too hard for me to read.

                        Love those flags!

Especially the 1st one, looks like from Naval Air Force.

                        Words like:

轟沈 (Gouchin) - Hit and Sink

巣立ち若鷲 (Sudachi Waka Washi) - Young eagle leaves the nest. Refer to young IJN Pilots.

My favorite one is 空の神兵 (Sora no Sinpei) - Sacred Armies Of the Sky. Refer to Japanese paratroopers.

                        Thank you for sharing!

                        Best regards,

                        Taka

Here is some additional information that was given to me by Hisashi over at Axis History Forum (AHF): "延安 (Yan'an, en-an inJapanese pronunciation) reminds me of the town which has a special meaning for Chinese Communist Party. But here, 延安 is a rare Japanese family name Nobuyasu. This flag was dedicated for Mr. Nobuyasu Shojiro (延安正次郎).

He looked an aviation crew. 「巣立つ若鷲=Young eagle in ready」「見敵必墜」(we must shoot to the ground whenever we find an enemy = a palody of a common expression「見敵必戦」, we must fight whenever we find an enemy) and some other expression suggests serving on aircrafts.

The red ball was covered with a poetic phrases. I cannot read a few characters, but roughly,

We were waiting the day we die
Smiling you go for the emperor
You do not die before you fulfill your mission
Though you have no regret wherever you pass away

Very sophisticated people. All had a good hand. "

                            Thanks Hisashi,
