    Two Flags from teh Woodwork

Well, they weren't really from the woodwork. I bought them from a dealer friend who pulled them out of the woodwork.
I'd like to get your guy's opinions on these flags. They both came from the same estate. The one has some pretty cool shrine stamps and the GI's name and unit written on it. The other has some nice signatures as well as what looks like bullet or shrapnel holes. Of course it's impossible to tell, but it is definitely not moth damage and looks pretty cool none the less. They are both dirty and have that "been there, done that" feel to them. Who knows they are probably SeaBee Specials!!

These are certainly not Seabee specials. They are the real thing. I cant quite make out the name of the recipient of the Yosegaki, but it and the unsigned flag are real examples from the field...wish we knew where from.

I agree, two nice original flags! No Seabee special there. They display nicely. I agree with you about the damage. They look like cotton flags to me, and moths prefer silk to cotton. The damage looks to me like period wear and tear. Usually these flags were folded several times and with bullet or schrapnel damage you will see a repeating pattern on the flag. Sometimes you can match the damage up and refold it into the position it was in when damaged.

Thanks guys! Your comments are more than appreciated!

These also came back with two really nice Senninbari belts that I am going to post in another thread. I'd also like to get more info on them as they are the only two I've ever owned.

This is the type of damage I was talking about. The flag was folded when the impact happened.

Yes, you are correct. I didn't mean to ignore your post...I agree when looking at it that it was folded just like you show. Thanks for the pic...I'm going to fold it and see what the damage looks like!
