This is an early IJA cap in my collection. I know it's Army. Can anyone tell me more about this cap?

nice
I owned one of these caps as well. Your Meiji era Japanese infantry cap is quite excellent, it could be 100 years old. These were used as early as the Russo-Japanese 1905 war but I am unsure when they were phased out. This one might be post WWI era. It appears original. Very similar to the one I owned. I will try to find some pictures of the one I had.
Here is a link to check out. http://wabcorner.blogspot.com/2010/0...-infantry.html
I have seen these in several variations. The height of the cap can vary, I have seen differint liner styles including coarsly woven burlap, higher quality cotton linings in different colors and I think silk. The straps can vary as well. These are reproduced but I am confident yours appears original. I am not sure when this cap model was replaced. I am curious to know that as well. Maybe other headgear people can enlighten us. It seems Early Meiji era Japanese military headgear isn't popular but I find it interesting.

cap
I love it. I've always wondered what era it was from, because the Russo-Japanese War photos always show the caps with the crown barely wider than the base. The photos from the Taisho era usually show the green caps with the red band. I guess post 1906, but pre 1920?
Meiji era items should definitely be more popular than they are.

These caps were used from Meiji 19 to Meiji 45 when they fully transitioned to the Khaki uniform. They started to use khaki caps with the red band in Meiji 38 as combat hats.
If this is not a replica it would be very late production as the shape is very similar to the Khaki type 45 cap which was used until Showa 20.
