WWII Japanse naval cap?

Hello forum...

a picker I know found this today yard saling along with some flags.

He asked for my help... and likely will list it on EBay... since I dont know what to offer.

I assume it's Japanese naval? Is it rare... something I should get? Or some sort of cadet/school hat?

I've never seen that insignia before. Cap looks period, issued & named original. Don't know if insignia was added & when. It looks hand applied & thats not a good sign

Possibly a shipyard worker. That type of hat was common not just for the military but also for work uniforms (still in use today). Hand sewn insignia is actually pretty common for wartime uniforms. I wouldn't try to sell this as a "Japanese Navy" cap though, we may not know exactly what it is, but we do know what Navy caps look like.
