    Questionable Rising sun order....real?

    Hello,

Just picked this up for 5$. I have no other Japanese medals and very little faith that this is a good one. The paint is a little sloppy and the medal itself has a seam running around the outside as if it were made of 2 pieces.

    Thoughts?

I don't know, the back looks kind of sloppy to me. A real one should be made of silver, so check that. A 7th (or 8th, or whatever this is trying to be) class isn't worth enough to make a fake of real silver. It also lacks the hook and loop attachment on the back of the ribbon, although that could have come off if it was there.

      Here's something for reference http://www.imperialjapanmedalsandbad...singsun78.html

This is authentic 8th class order of rising sun.
Most likely this piece came from late 20s/30s.
Some genius replace the original ribbon and painted (with red nail polish) flowers.

        P.S.

100% Ok, except for the paint, as Nick and others said.
And, Nick, can you find a better site about Japanese medals? That is why it is referenced so often. (shameless plug, sorry...)

I do indeed! Whenever I get a Japanese award I head right to it and read everything about it. Although I've been collecting Japanese militaria since the late 80s, I only got into the medals about 3 years ago.
