URGENT opinions on this Japanese sword please

Hi guys, Sorry for the short warning here but this sword goes up for auction locally TODAY and I know almost nothing about swords.... is it good and what's it worth if genuine? It's described as a WW2 officer's sword. I think it looks all genuine but any swift opinions will be gratefully received. I will bid if it looks ok to you guys.

Appears to be a Type 98 IJA Officer sword with leather combat covered saya. I believe I see a Seki stamp on the nakago (tang) so we are looking at a common WW2 period made sword rather than any sort of valuablle ancestral blade.

Value of any edged weapons in the blade and while that's an honest example of the type it would not be worth buying at more than 500 USD. Others may value it differently but without seeing the entire blade and knowing if it is bent, twisted, nicked along the cutting edge etc. I would not risk more money on it.

    Regards,
    Stu

Cool bananas Stu, many thanks for such a swift response.
It's the auctioneers pics and from what you say it might be worth leaving say just small bid on and keep my fingers crossed. I might ask about blade condition first.
      Thanks again

I left $350 on it (which would be over $400 with buyers premium) but the auctioneer has higher bids on it so it will obviously go for more than that. If I find out the selling price I will lyk.
        Thanks

Sword went for waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much! Sold for $1700; plus commision, so the buyer did not get a good deal!
Apparently also had a chip on the tip!

Found another Kaneaki in FANTASTIC polish.

Wow! If there was any documentation to prove the Kokoda trail connection in the description then sentimentality may have taken over the bidders as "Kokoda" is a persuasive name here in Oz.
Interesting though - sooo glad I asked opinions here, thanks for sharing guys.

Hi Marcus, yes, I'm sure 'Kododa' would have lifted the bidding!
Do you have the auctioneers description out of interest?

                  Regards

Hi Russ, Not very descriptiove I'm afraid all it said was "Officer's aamurai sword - captured from officer on kakado trail (sic) -note early maker's mark"
