    Katana sword for review

Showed a quick photo of this sword awhile back for ID purposes and recently purchased it from a Veterans family. (A WWII purple heart recipient)

Thought I would show more detailed photos for review and comments. My first sword!

The handle in unmarked except for what looks like a "2" or symbol marked in red.

The blade shows a nice halo across the edge that my camera did not pick up.

These are marks left by the back of the scabbard catch (spring clip). The only other markings were in some type of red marker and very faint.

Any idea of a maker? I have allot to learn!

It's unsigned, so you are never going to know who made it. WW2 Showato..mass produced blade. The number is just a rack/arsenal marking. Basically an honest WW2 Japanese sword.

                Hi Bob,

Is the tassel original to the sword?

                  Bill,
yes, the sword was brought back from the Pacific as you see it.
