    Shell Nose Caps ID

    Hey Guys:

I bought these two pieces of ordinance from two different Vet's sons. I've no clue as to what they are for - not my bag.

I'm pretty sure some one screwed two ends together on the 2nd one. They are tight and I can't get them apart.

The bigger one in the can looks to be missing a screw, I'm not sure.

Any info would be great before I sell them... I don't even know what to call them!

              Hi Skip,

              In photo #10 shows 八八式野山加

              八八式- Type 88
              野- Field gun
              山- Mountain gun
              加- Cannon

A very common type of fuse used by the IJA.

              Best regards,

              Taka

I'm sure you already noticed the first one is a Japanese Navy fuse. I've seen that type before but I don't remember what it goes to right now, someone else probably will.

The other is 2 different variations of Type 88 fuses for the 75mm, cut and screwed together. On the plunger of the skinnier one you see some cuts that were added. These once held some home made brass fins, making the screwed together fuses look like a small brass bomb. This was done to recycle the left over fuses into "war souvenirs", sometimes the whole thing is then added to a stand as part of an ashtray.

The top one, as mentioned, is Naval....Type 91 time fuze as used on 127mm dual purpose gun, the 155mm gun, and probably others.
