SOS news -- for the poor folks who couldn't make it

Any interesting finds at the SOS this year? Any news about overall trends at the show (tons more repros, hardly any helmets, too many sake cups, etc.)? If anyone could share their experiences, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I was really only looking for items for my shop, but did notice more Japanese Arisaka's than I have ever seen at the SOS. One Type 97 sniper that needed a scope and and had a repro T38 bolt was selling at a starting price of $900.00 which I didn't think was too bad. I bought a few ordnance pieces, but nothing rare or particularly interesting.
Aside from the influx in rifles, I personally didn't notice a lot of Japanese militaria, but again it wasn't something I was really looking for.
The Banzai table had a nice set up with good prices and Eric Doody had lots of Japanese helmets and ordnance to choose from including one nice Bangalore torpedo fuze that I ALMOST took the plunge on.

I thought it wasn't to bad prices were high but there were still some great deals to be found .i bought a netted naval which I was chuffed with , a signed and unit marked army probably as good as it gets without a net or camo .

I hate to tell you this guys but the Japanese headgear was all good compaired to German stuff which was highly faked and over priced.Dealers in Japanese items were more numerous and really approachable great guys .i took a few buisness cards if anyone want details ,

One of the dealers near the car display had the most amazing helmet it wasn't for sale and no wonder , it was a beauty.

I found a few things on my wish list. It's so much cheaper and safer than collecting "nazi" stuff. I'm trying to make the full transition!

I had a gvery good show, I bought a mint TGE Baby Nambu, a T-99 cutback sniper rifle, a T-13 Murata bolt, a T-91 modified genade, a 2 barrel Japanese flare pistol aluminum insuction plate and a 2 color 28 mm Japanese flare cartridge. I sold a few parts and met a number of Banzai members and others.

              Hello Don,

You wrote about finding a flare cartridge. Were there several others for sale with it? I have read that they are as rare as hens' teeth.

How much does IJA stuff go for over there?
I've seen piles lying around over here in Japan.

                    Hi George P,

Flare cartridges are difficult to find. I bought this one from another collector. He did have a couple of other flare cartridges but this was the only two color flare cartridge, it's the only two color one known. I tried to post a picture but haven't been able to.

                      Sos

Morning guys, Don send photos to Texasbadger@sbcglobal.net and Ill post them for you. As far as the show goes, Ive never seen so many Japanese swords in one place, most priced $1000 over what I can sell them for here in Texas, but I did pick up a nice 99 Sniper mummed matching and scoped that had a ton of red laquer on stock that I had been hunting down for months, and a couple of nice swords, one for resale and the others a keeper!
