Naval landing force officer photo

So a while back, I bought a photo on ebay of this naval landing force officer. The photo was a recently made print from an original WWII period negative. The photo was of course in black and white, and I scanned and it and sent a copy to a guy I met on Reddit.com. His hobby is adding color to old photos, so I asked if he would color the photo for me. This is end result. He didn't know much about Japanese military and I gave him sample photos to use as reference for the colors. I was wondering if I could get comments from you guys and let me know if you think any of the colors are off. This is just a project for fun, not for anything in particular. Very nice job! As mentioned colors look correct. Perhaps a little tweaking on ribbon bar but otherwise fine. Anyone have an original (or just old) black NLF tie for sale?

Looks like he did a good job. When I saw the photo before I read the text I thought it was a modern photo of a reenactor.

My initial reaction was: "Now, THATS a nice action figure! But a beard? Though, it looks like the fake hair was glued on a bit too thick." Then I noticed your explanation. (cool!)

The colorist did a very good job.

I really like the "present arms" position -- it "talks" to me.

I too thought the photo was a bit weird and thought it was staged or the beard was added on. To tell you the truth, I don't know the history of the photo. The guy who sold it told me said he made it from an original negative, and he showed me another photo of the guy, which looked a little more realistic, so I guess it's legit. I want to learn how to color photos. I have much more dramatic SNLF photos that would looks great with some color.

I wonder if the beard has a connection to the officer's heritage. Maybe he is from Hokkaido?
