    Japanese Sword Smith Help

Greetings. At an upcoming auction there is a nice officer sword with a surrender tag. Its a great looking sword with both sides of the tang signed. I am wondering who this smith was so i can start researching him. Any help would be great. Thanks guys.

I don't have my kanji cards handy for the smith name but the date side can be figured out through this pinned thread...

Thank you Stu. Looks like the one side reads : A day in 1944 .

I assume the other side would be smiths name?

Nobumitsu. More likley Sukemitsu rather than Koyama

Definitely Nobumitsu for me. I've found a precise match on my kanji cards.

It looks like the sword was captured from an Army 2nd Lieutenant Nakamura of the 67th Independent Mixed Brigade. This IMB did garrison duty on Hachijojima -- an island where a base of operations was created for Kaiten subs. Neat find, hope it works out!

Nakamura is a surname as common as "Smith" is in English.
