Japanese Navy Deck Shirt – Help Needed

    Hi Guys,

Just wondering if someone would be able to help me with this Japanese Navy deck shirt that I have had in my collection for a while.

I was curious about what the numbers and characters stand for on the back of the shirt and a translation would be great.

What period does it comes from? (Im assuming late war due to the construction)

The label of the inside in washed out and unreadable unfortunately.

    pics coming soon.

    Thanks in advance.

It's his name: 善多野 .. and based on the N45 ... it looks like the name is written in the Western method, reading from left to right: given name & surname.

      (Nick! HELP!!)

Family name: 多野 Tanô [Many Fields]
      Given name: 善 Yoshi [Virtues/Good]

I thought his name might be Nô Yoshimasa .... but it seems Tanô is a family name.

this type of shirt is considered a work shirt. Not to be confused with T-shirts (white or blue with alternating color around neck) or jumpers

Thanks very much for the help guys.
So I'm guessing the N45 is just a unit serial number that is on most navy equipment that is not traceable to any particular unit.
          Thanks again.

The true colour is white. The staining on it looks a lot worse in the pic than what it is like in reality. I have a pair of white pants that came with the shirt. The label on them is also unreadable.

Do you have any idea what the small pocket on the chest of the shirt was used for. The pocket opens from the side and is a very small opening.
              Thanks.

The name is Kitano 喜多野, a family name.
