      thanks! The Vet that I got this from is still alive. Said he was clearing a bunker and saw and empty box with straw in it. When he stuck his hand in the box, there was one grenade left. He wasnt allowed to bring it back to camp until he defused it.

        The 19.7 is the date of loading. That being 19 year seventh month reign of Showa: That's July 1944

            Guy,

            Actually this is the mark for Kokura Arsenal where the grenade was loaded on the 19.7 date. Here's a picture of some Arsenal/Depot marks info from a manual. You will see all these marks on grenades, mines and the like.

            Here is a Knee mortar shell with a Nagoya mark in a circle:


            Here is a Kiska grenade with a Tokyo mark and a date on the label:


            A tapemeasure Type 93 mine with Tokyo mark:
