    Japanese Souvenirs

How many of the signed flags in the United States are actual souvenirs from U.S. soldiers?

It seems every Japanese flag I see is listed as a "war souvenir". Are the majority actually bring backs or are they simply coming from Japan after the war to sell to collectors?

    Thanks

There certainly are ways to tell which flags are actual war souvenirs. And sometimes there are not. The bottom line is, know your flags and don't trust anyone's story. There are alot of flags coming out of Japan right now, and when they are resold later on, they may have a nice capture story attatched to them. Getting flags from a veterans family or veteran estate sales are usually a safe bet, but you still need to know what you are buying, as you may end up with a post war occupation flag, or a GI made up gibberish flag!

Unless there is documentation (capture papers, part of a grouping, intel inspection stamp), then I don't care. I'm just as happy with a flag that made it home with its owner as one that was supposedly captured by an Allied soldier but has no evidence of where it came from. In short: don't pay extra for a story.

Great advice guys, thanks for the information.

I have always wondered where all of the flag come from...

Every Japanese soldier and sailor seem to have had at least one, often more. I have 2 right now that are both named to the same guy from different people. So, there are a lot of them. Of course, some are more interesting and better looking than others.
