Characters marked on Japanese sword blade

Hello,

I would appreciate help on the meaning or purpose of the characters on the blade of this sword. I thought most of time, these type characters were etched on the tang, not the blade proper. Why are these on the blade, and any idea what they mean?

I am also assuming the number on the brass part next to the Tsuba is a military number. Or is it something else?

May we see an overview of the entire sword and scabbard if you have one for it? I'm always reluctant to call a sword a reproduction with so few photos but that is what first comes to mind when viewing what you have shown so far.

Not if the mileage is low.

Seriously though, I do not think that sword was made in Japan. I'm sure others will confirm or advise me otherwise in due course.
