    M1938 Officers Tunic, some questions.

    hi,
from what I have researched I believe this to be a M1938 Officers Tunic. Is this correct I can see where collar insignia has been removed also it appears to have had shoulder insignia what would this have been. Still has the arm of service insignia for Cavalry?. Came with matching pants. It isnt what I expected now I have it in hand. Any comments would be appreciated as I am not familiar with Japanese militaria. I paid around $160.00 all up for the tunic and pants.
    cheers Robert

Nice tunic. It might be what they call a "veterans" tunic. Not an actual combat or military tunic. The lack of markings/label/stamp etc might suggest this. I think the loops over the branch of service "M" patch were for veterans badge.

Hi Robert, nice tunic!! I have one very similar to yours except for the shldr boards (removed stitching) and liner. It doesn't have the collar tabs and can see where it was sewn on. It also looks like it had ribbon bars above the left breast pocket.

Jareth, what's the difference in cut between a veteran tunic and a service combat/dress tunic?

as far as I know the cut/style is similar. Hard to tell from a private purchased officers tunic. Differences are lack of ink stamps, markings or name etc. Most have veterans badge attached or loops/shadow of where badge was.
