Interesting, looks like the Japanese owner wrote his name on the same within the wrap and tassle but hard to read. Don't know if this is very common but I've seen this - My uncle has an officer sword he back from Japan. It was given to him by a lieutenant with the Imperial Guard. He was Military Intelligence Service (MIS) and the Japanese officer wanted him to have the sword bz he was Japanese (Japanese-American). The officer penned his last name in black ink on the same inside the kashira. That's a nice habaki on that sword. Would be interesting to see the tang. Be careful trying to get that handle off. You shouldn't need much force. I usually only tap the sword a few times and it moves.
