    IJN shipboard helmet

I just got this in, and would appreciate an evaluation.

The outer shell has a coat of a dark gunmetal grey paint, that looks almost black. The anchor badge is discolored, perhaps from the paint. It looks to be a brass badge. The inside of the helmet is the more typical shipboard coloration. The remaining pad is filled with horsehair. The strap seems to be more or less intact. I do not know what the kanji signifies, but it almost looks like it represents a number or position or something.

    Thanks for your help!

    Scott

Just looks like 11. 1 to me. If those marks are kanji, then probably 二. . If that is the case, they are painted sideways and would correspond to "2. 1"

              .... maybe.
