I am always suspicious of these overly stamped flags. They remind me alot of the infamous E-bay huckster "cupman" or "cupman3", or whatever he goes by now. He always sells overly stamped flags and made up groupings. I can't say if this is good or bad, because I don't know if these were around before cupman. I haven't collected Japanese long enough to remember that far back.

          Oh well

Well, that's a bummer. But at least I can take them back. Got these 2 from a friend who owns a mil bookstore locally.

Can't win em all I guess.

I am not saying its bad. I would just wait for some more opinions on it. It reminds me of a bad sellers wares, who sells on E-bay.

OK, let's be clear; it is a laughable fake. What looks like a shrine stamp is an ex libris stamp for books. This is a pure fake made by an American, for the Americans.

Ok, Thanks for clearing that up Nick! I usually dismiss these stamped up flags as garbage. I didn't want to be the only source to confirm it, as I will long be a student of Japanese militaria and culture.

As apparently so are new folks trying to learn.

(Not meaning you, I sincerely thank you for the help.)

ebay flag with a ton of ink stamps

Auction ended but this is a heavily stamped japanese flag. I have no idea if this is good. It almost looks too good to be true....

                        Japanese Flag

This flag that JCB references looks like a flag I owned and sold to another Japanese collector at the recent MAX Show. I have a number of flags that contain these postal, et.al. stamps placed upon them. This one had approximately 19-21 (I can't remember how many exactly) multi-colored stamps on it. In general, flags like these are fairly rare. A flag with more than just a couple of stamps on it should be considered an infrequent/nice find! These should not be put in the same category as the "Stampman" specials. MikeB

Well, my initial reaction after being called an "ignorant American" for buying something like this from someone I've known for 20 years, was to take it back and get a refund.

So, I guess no harm done.

But this has forever ruined me on buying any Japanese items, period.

So that closes my brief flirtation with Japanese collecting; good luck to everyone else.

                            Hello Sevrin,

It appears to me that you have taken offense where I'm sure none was meant. Nor do I see where anyone has referred to you as an "ignorant American". Perhaps it's time to take a step back and reconsider your position.

                            Regards,
                            Stu

                              Flag

Should I be confused here? or Is there something I missed? Oh well... Wouldn't be the first time. Moving right along, the flag that JCB is talking about in his 12-3 post is a flag I sold to another collector at the MAX. It is a rare flag and is a great example of this type of stamped flag. I wrote an article about a similar type of flag that appeared in Banzai this last year. Translation of these stamps can provide some terrific historic information and a great research lead......MikeB
