opinions on canteen

It looks like a Japanese WWII officer's canteen. But the ones I've seen have the snaps in the front -- not on the sides. Also the ones I've seen have smooth buttons with no design on them and they are painted typical Japanese Army dark brown. I have read that officers would often private purchase some things, so could be that.

Japanese officers had to buy all of their own gear, so there's a lot of variations.
